Daytime Running Lamps

About Safety DayLights™

Failing to see another road user in time to avoid (or at all) is a contributing factor in over 50% of all daytime accidents. For daytime intersection accidents this increases to as much as 80%.

Why Install HELLA LED Safety DayLights?

HELLA Safety DayLights are designed to enhance the visibility of your vehicle to other road users during daylight hours. Low beam headlamps on the other hand, are designed to effectively light up the road in front of the vehicle during darkness, whilst causing as little glare as possible to oncoming traffic…

Hence during daytime, low beam headlamps ‘waste’ almost all of their light which is directed to the road in front of the vehicle but provides very little as a signal or warning to the driver of an oncoming vehicle in bright daylight.

Low Beam Headlamps

Head lamps are designed to light the road at night without causing glare to other road users.

HELLA LED Safety DayLights

Safety Daylights™ are designed to increase the visibility of your vehicle during the brightest of daylight hours, your low beam headlamps are not.

Be Safe Be Seen

Safety DayLights (DRL’s) are forward facing LED warning Lamps that enhance the visibility of your vehicle during daylight hours to prevent vehicle crashes by ‘accidental oversight’.  They greatly reduce the risk of a serious or fatal collision with a predestrian.

As road users we have all experienced the ‘fright second’ of an almost crash, almost being overlooked by another car, van or truck, or as equally frightening almost not noticing another vehicle approaching due to an difficult to see vehicle colour, or the setting sun casting harsh shadows, which can momentarily obscure the approaching vehicle.

Any single one of these ‘fright seconds’ has the potential to end in a tragic outcome and an increase in the road toll statistics.

Low Beam Headlamps

HELLA LED Safety DayLights are:

A “never forget” safety enhancement. They automatically switch ON when the ignition is switched ON and will automatically switch OFF when the headlamps or park lights are turned on.

Higher performance using 95% less than your low beam headlamps, this could save as much as 0.2 litres of fuel per 100km.

Using headlamps during the day does elevate your fuel consumption and will result in expensive headlamp bulbs requiring more frequent replacements.

Design is based on a “Fit and Forget” solution using the highest quality components, LEDs and other materials. HELLA lamps are engineered and tested to the most stringent standards, to suit the most demanding environmental conditions. HELLA has provided innovative solutions that have been incorporated into millions of lamps on every continent on earth. This ultra-durable lamp can also extend the life of your headlamps by reducing their use during the day.
Maximise your Vehicle Visibility

HELLA LED Safety DayLights™ are designed specifically to make your vehicle conspicuous to other road users and pedestrians, low beam headlamps on the other hand are designed to effectively light up the road in front of the vehicle after dark, whilst causing as little glare as possible to oncoming traffic thus not effectively producing a light that is easily seen during the day.

HELLA Release 470mm LED Light Bar

After the success of the HELLA LED Light Bar 350, HELLA is introducing the longer and brighter brother, the LED Light Bar 470. The new lamp features all the outstanding properties of the previous model plus an additional four high performance automotive standard LED’s and a maximum luminous intensity of 166,000 candela at a power consumption of only 35 watts.

Environmental, Weight and Performance

The dust and waterproof IP69 Light Bar comes in two different beam patterns – High Beam (Ref. 25 with 1 lux at approx. 330 metres) and Pencil Beam (Ref. 37.5 with 1 lux at approx. 410 metres). With only 950g weight the Light Bar is particularly popular for roof mount applications on ATV’s and Off-road vehicles.

Mounting The Lampware

The non corrosive, thermally conductive housing is highly resistant to degradation and due to its slim profile, this streamline Light Bar is ideal for applications where aerodynamic styling are a valued attribute. The flexible, adjustable mounting system ensures easy installation including the ability to “double stack” the light bar.

The Light Bar features a Multivolt™ circuit for optimum brightness at a wide range of input voltages from 9 to 33 volts and is fully road legal with ECE approval.

• 16 high performance automotive grade LEDs
• Maximum luminous intensity of 166,000 candela
• Approved for use in New Zealand and Australia
• Low power consumption
• Highly adaptable mounting system
• Thermally conductive non-metal housing
• Light weight of only 950g

hella-barhawk-470mmRevolutionary Housing Material Sets New Benchmark

Pioneering innovative lighting solutions is our passion.  HELLA’s new materials unlock luminaire performance to weight ratios never before possible. HELLA manufacture ultra-light but robust and highly durable products with benchmark light performance.

The revolutionary new plastic ceramic materials with outstanding thermal performance open a world of possibilities never thought achievable only a few years ago. The replacement of metal based housing heat-sinks with thermally conductive plastic not only opens a myriad of design options, but also means they are completely corrosion resistant…means much, much longer life of the product.

This is especially important in demanding environments of marine and 4×4 off raod conditions. The unrelenting corrosive salt laden marine environment as mentioned will not effect this products performance and HELLA are offering a full 5 year warranty.

Less metal also means less weight: The  HELLA Barhawk LED light bar with thermally conductive plastic are up to 60% lighter than comparable metal bodied lamps. The much lower mass significantly reduces the stress on mounting points in high vibration and shock applications.

A Lamp housing made from thermally conductive plastic works much the same as the previously used metal housings. The world leading and innovative ceramic based plastic transfers the heat generated by the LED’s and drive electronic to the outside of the lamp body, thereby lowering the internal thermal stress on the component. This in turn ensures a long service life with minimal degradation of the LED’s.  HELLA use CoolPoly® for thermally conductive lamp housings, which is some 30 times more conductive than conventional plastic.  This is truly cutting edge technology.  Most other light bars use a powder coated metallic/aluminum housing.  In short they will corrode over time and break down.
